The Camino de Costa Rica is a 280Km coast to coast hike that has been developed and grown into one of the most sought-after adventures for trekkers worldwide. The socio-economic impact of the trek is on par with the views and adventures you will find along the way.
A common question regarding the trail is its elevation. This comes up for multiple physical reasons such as altitude sickness, the strenuous nature of the hike, and simply personal records for those enjoying new treks around the world. In comparison, here are other famous hikes and their elevation.
- Camino de Santiago – 4,934 feet / 1,504 meters
- Appalachian Trail – 6,643 feet / 2,025 meters
- Inca Trail – 13,828 feet / 4,215 meters
- El Camino de Costa Rica – 7154 feet / 2180 meters
You will notice in the bottom graph on the right that the elevation is a gradual climb allowing hikers to acclimate to the conditions of elevations they will encounter. Its really not until the 140Km point in that you are dealing with true elevation. Don’t get us wrong the trail is up and down and side to side but most of the time you are distracted with beautiful views, stories from your naturalist, and the flow of being in your hiking state.
